Georgia Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Chris Clark released the following statement after the U.S. Congress today passed legislation repealing a proposed 2013 IRS policy that would require federal, state, and local governments to withhold 3 percent of their payments for goods and services provided by private businesses:
"Today was a significant victory for the private sector - both in Georgia and across the nation - which would have been saddled with another financial burden if this proposed withholding tax was allowed to go into effect," said Clark. “At a time when millions of businesses are struggling to grow and create jobs despite a down economy, it was imperative our Congressional leaders took action to repeal this harmful law. I want to thank the House and Senate, and especially the Georgia Congressional delegation for pulling together on a bipartisan basis to get this done."
