Tax Compliance

Often times, Georgia business owners spend countless hours and untold resources trying to comply with the current tax system. Everyone from small shop owners to multi-billion dollar corporations could benefit from greater efficiencies with regard to compliance. Having heard from members across the state, and understanding the cost tax compliance can require, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce has decided to advocate for changes in the system.

Specifically, Chamber supports:

• the adoption of legislation, rules and regulations, and administrative procedures that provide for ease of compliance by tax filers and access to meaningful data based upon such filings;
• prioritizing collection of taxes legally due the state before looking to new sources;
• state use of technology to help automate routine processes along with funding for adequate staff and equipment to process and audit returns; and
• adequate audits to ensure proper collection and disbursement of tax revenue.

Creating a more efficient, streamlined compliance process will help all Georgia businesses keep more of the money they earned, and provide more opportunity for growth and expansion in the years to come.
