Hunting for Economic Development

Monday, February 22, 2010

The 22nd annual Georgia Quail Hunt was held on February 3 - 5 in Albany, continuing a tradition that brings business executives from all over the world to explore Georgia economic development opportunities. This year, 27 guests arrived in southwest Georgia, ready to explore the best quail hunting area in the nation and meet with the state's top business and government leaders.

Guests received shooting instruction and orientation from world-renowned professionals and participated in skeet-shooting during the first day of the Hunt, ensuring everyone would abide by safety standards during the event. During the next few days, guests were paired with state hosts and local business owners and manager for quail hunting in the mornings and afternoons, providing a one-on-one experience to get acquainted with the people and natural beauty of Georgia.  At night, guests enjoyed a reception and dinner hosted on the first night by Governor Sonny Perdue, and hosted on the second night by Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle.

"Any opportunity we have to showcase our state's strong economic climate is even more important in today's economy," said George Israel, president and CEO of the Georgia Chamber. "The Quail Hunt is an exceptional event that also allows our guests to experience our high quality of life not only is Georgia a great place for business, it is also a great place for these executives to raise their families."

Since 1994, guests of the Georgia Quail Hunt have invested over $2.5 billion in Georgia and created more than 8,400 new jobs through corporate relocations or expansions. From its start as the Fall Feather Hunt in 1988, the Georgia Quail Hunt continues to provide a premier experience that showcases all our state has to offer business.

The Georgia Quail Hunt is co-sponsored each year by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the Georgia Allies, the Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission, and the Southwest Georgia Chamber Council.
