Success in Economic Development Benefits All Georgians

Wednesday, January 31, 2007

Since its inception, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce has been committed to bringing new business to Georgia. Economic development initiatives are important for Georgia. New business brings new jobs for Georgians, more money to invest in the state and a variety of other opportunities for Georgians. It is a winning combination.

The Georgia Chamber has sponsored the Red Carpet Tour for nearly 50 years, which includes spending two days at the Masters® Golf Tournament in Augusta. For nearly 20 years, the Georgia Chamber has also hosted a quail hunt in southwest Georgia. Both events are an opportunity to invite corporate decision makers to visit Georgia and learn about its strengths.

The Georgia Quail Hunt which is being held February 6-8, is a relationship-building event. Companies that have expressed an interest in expanding or relocating to Georgia are invited to attend. The guests have the opportunity to meet with many of Georgia's business leaders to learn more about the state.  Now that the Hunt is over, with the help of the Georgia Allies and the Georgia Department of Economic Development, the Georgia Chamber will stay in touch with guests and continue to foster a relationship with them.  Many of these companies do eventually make Georgia their home. In fact, since 1994, guests from previous Hunts have invested $1.25 billion in Georgia and have created 7,400 new jobs for Georgians.

This year, guests attending the Georgia Quail Hunt stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Albany.  They had the opportunity to hunt on a variety of plantations for release and wild bird hunting.  Guests also enjoyed dinner and a special welcome from Gov. Sonny Perdue and Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle.

Lindsay Thomas, senior vice president of Governmental Relations, AGL Resources, is chair of the 2008 Georgia Quail Hunt.
