Team Georgia Chamber ’08 Taking Shape as June Kick Off Nears

A small army of business leaders from all parts of the state is quietly forming in anticipation of the start of Team Georgia Chamber ’08, the state chamber’s annual drive for new members and revenue.

The campaign will mark the 12th consecutive year that the Georgia Chamber has conducted an aggressive statewide drive.  All of them, since the first one in 1997, have hit their goal, resulting in an infusion of more than $12 million in new funds to help upgrade member services and benefits.  During this same time period, the campaign has been responsible for a nearly 150% increase in membership.

Planning for the 2008 drive began as soon as the 2007 campaign ended.  It was a record-setting drive, bringing in 819 new members and $1.76 million.  Campaign planners and volunteers will be working hard over the summer and fall to top these numbers.

Working with Membership Co-Chairs, Chris Hatcher (Dotcomments, Albany), Mylle Mangum (IBT Enterprises, LLC, Norcross), and Steve Smith (Turner Broadcasting System, Atlanta) and 2008 Campaign Chairman, Mike Garrett (Georgia Power Company), the Georgia Chamber Membership Department staff is currently lining up teams, volunteers and sponsors, so everything will be in place when the campaign kicks off on June 11th.

Watching closely will be Charles Tarbutton, 2008 Chair of the Georgia Chamber, himself a veteran of many campaigns.  “As our members know so well, we are a lobbying organization for Georgia business and, regardless of sound our positions are, we must still show our elected officials that we have members in all parts of Georgia,” Tarbutton said, adding that the campaign is the most effective way to keep the organization strong and growing.

If raising more than $1.7 million and recruiting 819 new members, sounds like a Herculean task, remember that this is a team effort, with 500 volunteers and production spread out across the landscape.  And, there are many benefits for a company that sponsor a team.  Not only is it a highly effective way for employees to meet and get to know people who are often prospective clients, it’s an opportunity to gain positive statewide exposure for the company.

Sponsoring a team is easy and it comes with 24/7 support from the staff.  For more information, call Tom King at 404.223.2278 or 800/241-2286.
