A Red Carpet Welcome Appropriate for April Visitors to Georgia

As the start of the 49th annual Red Carpet Tour nears, Georgia is putting on its best face for some very important visitors.

Of course, all visitors to our state are important, but the forty or so guests who will travel to the Peach State from all over the world in April are bringing with them the potential to become major investors in local communities, which means new jobs for Georgia citizens.

When this group of VIP’s arrives on April 9th, they will become part of a time-tested and remarkably successful program that has generated more than $3 billion in new investments and led to the creation of more than 30,000 jobs throughout Georgia.

What began as an arduous motor tour of the state nearly a half-century ago quickly made the transition to the jet age that allows the group to visit several communities during their stay. But, the centerpiece of the Tour remains a visit to the world famous Masters golf tournament in Augusta.

But, most of their time is spent with their Georgia hosts, learning why locating their business in the state is a wise move. Within hours of arriving, they will visit the Governor’s Mansion, where our state’s top salesman, Gov. Perdue, will host them for dinner. Early the next morning, they will fly to Augusta for the first round of the Masters, but then it is on to Columbus for an intensive look at this dynamic west Georgia city. They will spend time at Callaway Gardens and Fort Benning, then take an early Saturday flight back to Augusta to take in more of the Masters.

The group returns to Atlanta on Saturday evening to digest the whirlwind of activities and prepare for their flights home on Sunday. And, if they are like many guests from previous Red Carpet Tours, some will be back, ready to call Georgia home.

The Red Carpet Tour is managed by the Georgia Chamber and is made possible by funding from private and state sources.
