Georgia Supreme Court Rejects Activists' C02 Regulation Suit The Georgia Chamber has scored a major victory against environmental activists who sought to drastically increase energy costs for Georgia residents and businesses by making the Peach State the first in the nation to regulate the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2).
In a unanimous decision issued September 28, the Georgia Supreme Court rejected a request by Friends of the Chattahoochee and the Sierra Club to hear their case, preserving a favorable ruling handed down by the Georgia Court of Appeals in July and ending a court battle that began more than two years ago.
The Chamber thanks the more than 100 Georgia businesses, trade groups, local chambers of commerce and others who co-signed three amicus briefs filed by the Chamber during the case.

Employers for Quality Health Care, a national coalition created by the Georgia Chamber and 20 other state chambers of commerce, has launched an online calculator that employers can use to determine how much a new government-run health plan will cost them in taxes and penalties if enacted.
The calculator is free for Chamber members and does not store any information entered. To use it, visit www.employersforqualityhealthcare.org, click on the "Learn More" tab, and then click the "Employer Cost Calculator" link on the left-hand side.
While visiting the site, be sure to check out the coalition's press release and letter to Congress or become a fan of the Facebook page to get the latest health reform news from Washington D.C.
Tax Reform Conference to be Held November 5 The Georgia Chamber of Commerce believes reform of our state tax system is an important and timely discussion. For this reason, the Chamber - through the tax policy committee - will host a tax policy forum in Atlanta on November 3 at the Georgia Tech Global Learning Center from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
This event will feature national tax experts, state legislative tax leaders and industry tax representatives in a discussion about changes that could provide a more balanced, sustainable and efficient tax structure in Georgia.
More details will be announced shortly!
