Over 300 members of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce traveled to Washington on Tuesday, September 9, 2008, to show their appreciation for Georgia's Congressional delegation and their staff. The trip, which included an appreciation luncheon and reception, also provided an opportunity for business leaders from throughout the state to visit with their representatives and discuss issues of importance to Georgia.
"Our Senators and Representatives and their staffs have all chosen to dedicate their lives to serving Georgia. The businesses of our state have benefited greatly from their hard work, and it is important that we take the time to say thank you," said Georgia Chamber President & CEO George Israel. "The fact that so many members participated in today's events sends a strong signal that we are not only appreciative for what our elected leaders have done, but also that we are here to support their efforts into the future."
In addition to the luncheon and reception, Senators Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson provided a briefing and update on the New Energy Reform Act of 2008 (New ERA) to members of the Chamber's Energy and Environment Policy Committee and Chamber officers who made the trip. A bi-partisan coalition of United States Senators has come together in support of the bill, which includes a broad range of measures to address the nation's growing energy crisis.
