September 23 |  Day 1

Depart from Atlanta on an overnight flight to Reykjavik.

September 24 |  Day 2
ARRIVE IN REYKJAVIK

Welcome to Iceland! Your next seven days will be spent exploring this amazing country filled with beautiful nature, wonderful food, and inspiring art and culture. You will be met by your private local guide at the airport and set off to enjoy breakfast at Viking World Café as you take in the magnificent view of the Atlantic Ocean. Following breakfast, wander through one of the top museums in Iceland, Viking World. On display is the replica of a Viking Ship that sailed to Iceland in A.D. 870. After leaving the museum get a feel for Reykjavik, often called the greenest city on Earth. You will see the Höfði House, best known for the 1986 summit meeting of U.S. President Ronald Reagan and Soviet Union President Mikhail Gorbachev that effectively marked the end of the Cold War, the Perlan Restaurant and the presidential residence at Bessastadir. Later you will visit Hallgrim’s Church and the University District as well as the Old Town Center and modern City Hall. Later in the day, admire the artwork of Ásmundur Sveinsson and Einar Jónsson, both famous Icelandic artists. In the evening, get to know your fellow travelers over a relaxing welcome dinner as you sample gourmet Icelandic cuisine.

September 25 |  Day 3
THE GOLDEN CIRCLE

After breakfast you will leave the buzz of Reykjavik behind as you travel the Golden Circle, a ring of some of Iceland’s most magnificent natural wonders. Stop at Thingvellir National Park to see the Althing, where the oldest existing parliament in the world, first assembled in 930 AD. Explore the Great Geysir Geothermal Area, a valley and home to several breathtaking geysers. For the last stop of the day, you will discover Gullfoss, known as the Golden Waterfall due to its golden-brown color appearance on a sunny day, a natural wonder of the world and the most powerful waterfall in all of Europe.

September 26 |  Day 4
SOUTH COAST TOUR

Embark on an excursion to the South Coast, a lowland region of lush farmland, striking waterfalls, beaches, glaciers and picturesque villages. You will get to stand behind the impressive Seljalandsfoss waterfall, view the active Eyjafjallajökull volcano, marvel at the beauty of the Sólheimajökull glacier and take a stroll on the South Coast’s black sand beaches.

September 27 |  Day 5
CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE

Spend the morning exploring, fishing, scuba diving or whale watching on your morning off. You might decide to start the day with a cruise in search of Minke and Humpback whales during a whale-watching tour. An environmentalist guide will discuss the biology and behavior of these wonderful sea mammals while you scan the horizon for signs of their presence. Be sure to also keep your eye out for white-beaked dolphins and harbor porpoises playing on the surface. Later in the day, enjoy a cocktail or spa treatment as you recharge in the milky waters of the enchanting Blue Lagoon, one of the top 25 modern wonders of the world. The lagoon is full of rich minerals known to sooth and relax. Located in a lava field in Grindavik, the huge outdoor pool is filled by naturally heated geothermal water which comes from 6,500 feet beneath the earth.

September 28 | Day 6
WEST ICELAND

Depart Reykjavik and travel to Husafell, stopping en route to admire West Iceland’s dramatically varied landscapes. Visit the Grimsa River, where you may spot a troll face carved into the nearby cliffs. Marvel at Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring. Later admire Hraunfossar, clear falls that stream over a lava field, and see the nearby cascades of Barnafoss. Lastly, visit Reykholt, a historic village that was home to medieval writer and Chieftain Snorri Sturluson.
Overnight in Husafell.

September 29 | Day 7
GLACIER TOURS AND BOGARNES

After breakfast travel back to Reykjavik, stopping to discover more of West Iceland’s iconic sites along the way. In a specially modified snow truck, explore the Langjökull Glacier, Iceland’s second largest glacier, and walk through its interior ice tunnels. Later stop in the town of Borgarnes to visit an Icelandic settlement exhibition and learn more about Viking history. Overnight in Reykjavik. (B)

September 30|  Day 8
DEPART FOR AMERICA

Depart to the airport for your flight back to Atlanta. (B)
