Efforts to secure funding for a project to deepen the Savannah River are picking up steam. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and business leaders in the capital city pledged their support last Thursday morning to efforts to obtain federal funding for the deepening of the Savannah River.
Mayor Reed said this initiative fits his goal of making Atlanta the global logistics center, and has been working to convince fellow Democrats in Washington to support the effort. The Georgia Chamber has long held the opinion that in order to stay economically competative in the global marketplace, the Savannah River would need to be deepened.
