Fall Feather Hunt Wraps Up in Southwest Georgia

The 2003 Fall Feather Hunt came to an end as nearly 20 corporate decision-makers from across America and around the world enjoyed their final day of world-class quail hunting on December 12.  The Fall Feather Hunt, which has brought guests to the state for 16 years, is designed to showcase Georgia to companies wishing to relocate or expand current operations.

The Hunt, which began on December 10, is a unique economic development initiative that allows guests to get a feel for Georgia's healthy business environment in a relaxed setting.  Guests hunted with hosts from across the state and enjoyed three days of southern hospitality on some of world's most beautiful plantations, including Ashbrook, Ochlocknee, Samara, Southern Woods and Quail Country.

The event kicked off with a reception and dinner, hosted by Lieutenant Governor Mark Taylor at The Parks at Chehaw in Albany.  Jim Fowler of Mutual of Omaha provided entertainment at the opening dinner.  Governor Sonny Perdue addressed the group at a dinner on December 11.  Guests also heard from World Series MVP and Albany plantation owner Ray Knight.

Georgia Chamber President & CEO George Israel says the hunt was an eye opening experience for many leaders about all Georgia has to offer.  "Our guests are serious about doing business in a state that fosters economic growth and stability," Israel said.  "What they saw is that Georgians feel the same and that we are the nicest people in the world."

Ten guests from the past thee Fall Feather Hunts made decisions to locate facilities in Georgia.  These projects are important, bringing more than 1,200 jobs and $187 million in new or expanded investments to the state's economy.  In fact, since 1988, Fall Feather Hunt guests have announced more than $2 billion in investments while creating thousands of jobs statewide.

Jim Deal, President of Albany Communications, was Chair of the 2003 Fall Feather Hunt State Host Committee.  Paul DeLoach, of DeLoach & Associates, was Chair of the 2003 Albany Area Fall Feather Hunt Steering Committee.

The Fall Feather Hunt is a partnership between the Georgia Chamber, the Georgia Department of Industry, Trade & Tourism, Georgia Allies, the Albany Area Chamber and the Southwest Georgia Chamber Council.
