Guests to Visit Three Regions During Red Carpet Tour

Corporate decision makers from around the world will see what Georgia is made of on the 45th Annual Red Carpet Tour, April 7-10, 2004.  The Tour will take guests to metro Atlanta, northeast Georgia and the Augusta area for a four-day visit to some of the state’s most exciting communities.

The Georgia Chamber, Georgia Department of Economic Development, Georgia Allies and the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce team up each year to host the event, which lets business leaders look at what makes Georgia a good place to do business.  The Red Carpet Tour has visited every corner of the state and benefits have been felt across Georgia.  In the past 15 years, guests on the Tour have announced more than $3 billion in new or expanded business investment in the state while creating some 25,000 jobs.

Georgia Chamber President & CEO George Israel says economic development is a complex business that requires the expertise and effort of many people to accomplish.  “When our guests come to Georgia, we give them a first class experience and a good idea of what our people are all about,” Israel said.  “It takes a lot of coordinating to make the Red Carpet Tour as successful as it has been and we are fortunate to work with the best organizations to make the event a reality.”

State and local hosts will travel with the contingent, serving as liaisons and teaching Tour participants about Georgia.  The group travels around the state aboard Red Carpet One, a chartered Delta Air Lines jet.  The Red Carpet Tour begins with an evening reception and dinner hosted by Governor Sonny Perdue and First Lady Mary Perdue at the Governor's Mansion in Atlanta.

The Red Carpet Tour will spend one day in metro Atlanta and one day in Gainesville.  Programs highlighting both areas will allow guests to learn about the state’s business community from those who work in it every day.  On Thursday, April 8, and Saturday, April 10, the group will spend the day at Augusta National Golf Club for the first and third rounds of The Masters, golf’s most storied major championship.

Israel looks forward to the event.  “Not only is the Red Carpet Tour a harbinger of spring, it is an event that highlights the best of what Georgia has to offer,” Israel said.

Charles Tarbutton, Assistant Vice President, Sandersville Railroad, is the 2004 Red Carpet Tour State Host Committee Chair.  Tate Godfrey, Senior Vice President of Business Development for Group VI Corporation is Chair of the Atlanta Region.  Richard Hagler, President of Barron & Brothers is Chair of the Gainesville/Northeast Georgia Region and Mark Wills, President of Regions Bank Augusta is Chair of the Augusta Metro Region.
