Georgia Chamber Gears Up for Fall Feather Hunt
Georgia is known for its world-class quail hunting, southern hospitality and a strong business community. All three will be on display when the 17th Annual Fall Feather Hunt takes corporate decision makers from across the globe to southwest Georgia, December 8-10, 2004.
The Fall Feather Hunt uses a soft sell approach to encourage growth in the business community. Since the Hunt’s inception in 1988, guests have announced more than $3.03 billion in new or expanded investments and created 13,000 jobs across Georgia. In fact, over the past three years, 10 guests have made announcements that they will either expand current operations or open new facilities in the Peach State.
“The Fall Feather Hunt is truly a unique opportunity for business leaders to see what Georgia has to offer their company while enjoying some of our most beautiful places and friendly people,” said Georgia Chamber President & CEO George Israel. “The state sells itself.”
On Wednesday, December 8, the Fall Feather Hunt kicks off with a reception and quail dinner at Wynfield Plantation, hosted by Lt. Governor Mark Taylor. The following evening, Gov. Sonny Perdue will host dinner at Southern Woods Plantation. After Wednesday night’s dinner, Colquitt, Georgia’s Swamp Gravy, sponsored by Miller Brewing Company, will treat guests to a performance.
A gun safety class and skeet shoot on the first afternoon of the hunt allows hunters to hone their skills on clay targets before heading to the woods. Guests and state hosts will spend their days at some of the state’s most pristine quail plantations, including Ashbrook, Ochlocknee, Southern Woods and Wynfield.
Invitations to the event were sent out to a group of pre-determined potential attendees last week. Guests are individuals whose companies have expressed interest in expanding or relocating to Georgia. The Georgia Chamber, the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce, the Southwest Georgia Chamber Council and Georgia Allies host the Fall Feather Hunt.
Guests on the Hunt are matched with State Hosts, who represent companies and communities across the state. Paul DeLoach, Director of Business Development for Pellicano Company, Inc., is the 2004 State Host Committee Chair. Pam Richter of Regions Bank and John Funderburke of Life of the South Insurance are Co-Chairs of the Albany Area Steering Committee.
