Guests to Visit Three Regions During 2005 Red Carpet Tour®
Participating Georgia communities will roll out the red carpet for corporate decision makers from around the world April 6-9 on the 46th Annual Red Carpet Tour® of Georgia. This year, the Tour will visit the Atlanta Region, Northwest Georgia (Rome/Dalton) Region, and the Augusta area.
Exemplifying Georgia’s strong public-private economic development partnerships, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, Georgia Department of Economic Development, Georgia Allies and the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce partner each year to host the Red Carpet Tour®, which allows business leaders to experience firsthand what differentiates Georgia from other states in both the Southeast and in the U.S. The Tour strives to strengthen relationships previously formed and build new relationships while showcasing Georgia as a great place to do business.
Over the past 45 years, the Red Carpet Tour® has visited every corner of the state more than once, and benefits have been felt across Georgia. Just since 1988, guests on the Tour have announced more than $3.5 billion in new or expanded business investments in the state while creating approximately 30,000 new jobs for Georgians.
The Red Carpet Tour® begins with a Welcome Reception at the Tour’s host hotel; The Four Seasons, Atlanta; followed by dinner with Governor and Mrs. Sonny Perdue at the Governor's Mansion in Atlanta.
The group will travel to Augusta aboard Red Carpet One, a chartered Delta Air Lines jet, on Thursday, April 7, and Saturday, April 9, to view the first and third rounds of The Masters®, golf’s most storied major championship. Guests will be able to relax throughout both days at the Red Carpet Tour® hospitality tent on the grounds of Augusta National Golf Club.
On Friday morning, April 8, Tour guests will enjoy a private viewing of Georgia Business Report during the Atlanta regional breakfast in Georgia Public Broadcasting’s studio with three influential Atlanta CEOs. The entourage will then travel to Rome for an exciting luncheon program at the Rome Braves Stadium. After a day at the stadium, guests will be taken to the Carpet Capitol of the World, Dalton, for an elegant reception and dinner.
State Hosts from businesses across Georgia will travel with the contingent, serving as liaisons and teaching Tour participants about Georgia. Herbert Short, a Partner with Sutherland Asbill & Brennan, is the 2005 Red Carpet Tour® State Host Chair. Meredith Melvin, Director of Legislative Affairs for ALLTEL, is chairing the Atlanta Regional program. Otis Raybon, Vice President of Operations for News Publishing Corporation in Rome; and Matt Jackson, City Executive of BB& T-Dalton, are Co-Chairs of the Northwest Georgia Region. Phil Wahl, II, President of Bank of America in Augusta; and Deke Copenhaver, Executive Director of the Central Savannah River Land Trust are Co-Chairs of the Metro Augusta Region.
Georgia Chamber President and CEO, George Israel, says “Not only is the Red Carpet Tour® a harbinger of Spring, it is an event which highlights the best of what Georgia has to offer.”
