2005 Red Carpet Tour Wraps Up in Augusta

The 2005 Red Carpet Tour, sponsored by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, hosted thirty-eight executives to promote the benefits of doing business in Georgia.  Herbert Short, a partner in the firm of Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan, LLP, served as this year's chairman.

Since 1959, corporate decision makers from around the world have participated in the Red Carpet Tour traveling to various regions of the state and witnessing first hand the strong pro-business climate Georgia has to offer.  One of the many highlights of this annual event is attending the Masters® Golf Tournament, which is one of the most coveted tickets in all of sports.

On day one (Wednesday, April 6), guests attended an orientation and welcome reception at The Four Seasons Hotel, followed by a dinner at the Governor’s Mansion hosted by Governor Sonny Perdue and First Lady Mary Perdue.

On Thursday morning, the Tour departed for Augusta for the opening round of the Masters® Golf Tournament followed by a casual BBQ dinner under the Red Carpet Tour hospitality tent.  Guests returned to Atlanta on Delta’s Red Carpet Tour One  that evening.

On Friday morning, the Tour opened with the Atlanta Regional Breakfast at the studios of Georgia Public Broadcasting.  Guests viewed a special Red Carpet Tour “mock” production of Georgia Business Report, during which three very influential Atlanta CEOs, Bernie Marcus, The Home Depot, Pete Correll, Georgia Pacific and Tom Bell, Cousins Properties, were interviewed live.  The Tour then traveled to Rome where guests were greeted by the Mayor and local school children at State Mutual Stadium, home of the Rome Braves baseball team.  Guests had lunch and heard a presentation from Guy Mannino, President of Pirelli Tires.

The Tour then departed for Dalton where guests were welcomed at City Hall by the Mayor and members of the City Council. After a reception, the Tour arrived at Dalton Golf & Country Club for dinner and entertainment in the Ballroom.  The Tour returned to the Four Seasons Hotel in Atlanta for the night.

On the final day of the Red Carpet Tour, guests returned to Augusta for the third round of the Masters® Tournament to see the best golfers in the world compete.  Saturday night, guests and hosts returned to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport for their flights home.

The Red Carpet Tour is considered the premier statewide economic development marketing initiative in the nation.  Since 1988, Red Carpet Tour has generated more than 30,000 jobs and $3.5 billion in new or expanded business investment in Georgia.
