Campaign Roars Into Second Half; Vols Homing In On Goals

Nobody can deny that Georgia is home to some top notch teams and many are distinguishing themselves this fall in all parts of the state.  Georgians are competitive by nature and that makes for great contests.

The athletic teams do their heroics on the field.  Others are less visible, but just as diligent and committed to victory.  One of them, Team Georgia Chamber '06, is engaged in a 21-week marathon to add members and dollars to make the voice of the Georgia business community at the state capitol stronger and more influential.  The reward will be a healthier economy, with more good jobs for Georgia citizens and a business climate that attracts new investment.

Our team, composed of more than 500 businessmen and women, representing 40 Georgia companies from all parts of the state, is focused on recruiting new members, in an effort to boost the state chamber membership to 5,000 members, representing all 159 counties.

Last week was half time for the campaign, not to rehash the first 10 weeks, but to bear down on the goals that each team set for itself and work together to hit an overall objective of raising $1.7 million and recruiting 825 new members.  And, they are well on their way to doing it.

In an unusual twist of fate, volunteers from two teams took all five spots on the Top Producer list for the week, led by Frank Boyd (Georgia Power) with $9,985 for the seven-day period.  He was followed by Tom Butsch (Regions Bank) with $5,500 and Tony Sammons (Georgia Power) reporting $3,700.  Rounding out the top five individual leaders were Bob Hayes (Georgia Power-Metro East) and Gary Colbert (Regions Bank), each with a little more than $1,500 each.

Georgia Power earned the title for Top Producing Team for the week.  Also on this list were: Regions Bank, SunTrust Bank, Wachovia Bank and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates.

Friday, September 22nd, could be a slow day for the campaign, since that's the day that many of the campaign leaders will head for a long weekend in Las Vegas.  In all, 30 volunteers earned the trip for two to the neon city.  Air transportation, as well as hotel accommodations at the world famous MGM Grand Hotel, have been provided by AirTran Airways, a Grand Sponsor of the Team Georgia Chamber '06 campaign.

When they return, the attention of these volunteers and others will turn to the next incentive trip, a day excursion to New York City in December, also provided by AirTran Airways.  The final trip of the campaign, awarded based on final results, will be a five-day trip to Barbados in January 2007.  Forty-five top producers and their guests are expected to make the trip.

According to 2006 Campaign Chairman Dr. David Allen, the key to hitting the goal is teamwork.  "We've assembled the best team in Georgia, who, in their own way, are as good as the ones that play on Saturday and Sunday.  We don't get bruised as much and we don't get headlines in the sports pages, but come next winter, when the stadiums are empty and the biggest show in Georgia is taking place under the Gold Dome, you will see just how important our team is."  Allen added, "When Georgia business has the strong representation in the Legislature it deserves."
