Economic Navigator: Georgia Economic Indicators Show Promise Headed Into Q4

Published September 17, 2025
Providing business, community, and elected leaders with timely, reliable insights on economic trends is essential for informed decision-making. The insights in the latest Georgia Chamber Foundation Briefing support strategic planning efforts and help strengthen stability amid national economic uncertainty.
Georgia’s labor market remains tight and expanding. June data shows total employment surpassing the five-million mark with 5,001,100 employed Georgians, while job postings rose 11% to 112,676 from 101,500 in May, signaling persistent labor demand alongside active hiring. The state unemployment rate edged down to 3.5%, and the labor force expanded to 5,376,388, suggesting workers are continuing to enter or reenter the market even as employers add headcount.

The housing market in Georgia could be cooling with modest easing on price pressure. The statewide median home sales price decreased to $343,333 in Q2, offering the potential for some relief to buyers and supporting mobility for households. However, pricing alone will not resolve supply constraints or location-specific affordability challenges as Georgia like the rest of the nation faces a shortage of available homes.

Topline economic output continues to remain firm. Real GDP for all industries reached an estimated $708.57 billion, with manufacturing real GDP at $69.92 billion. Both of these figures are higher than prior measurements and are consistent with steady demand and production.

Logistics indicators were mixed. Port of Savannah throughput registered 410,399 TEUs in the latest monthly read, suggesting a softer month amid an overall significant annual uptick in throughput for 2025. This bears monitoring given Georgia’s status as a transportation and logistics hub.

Georgians continue to form an impressive number of new businesses. Business applications came in at 18,571, an increased amount that aligns with continued optimism from entrepreneurs and small-business dynamism across the state.
  • Assess current employee-need gaps and deploy targeted tools such as tuition support, scheduling flexibility, and upskilling, to convert strong labor demand into sustained hires.
  • Continue to evaluate sourcing, routing, and inventory models to determine whether shifts in logistics or supply chains are prudent.
  • Leverage the continued strength in new business formation by evaluating vendor and supply needs.
