Georgia Chamber Joins National Initiative to Address Inequality of Opportunity
Chambers unite for National Day of Dialogue on June 25
Atlanta, Ga — Today, the Georgia Chamber announced that it will partner with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on a national initiative to address inequality of opportunity.
The Georgia Chamber will join the U.S. Chamber’s national town hall event on June 25, 2020, where business and community leaders will discuss concrete actions that can be taken by government and the private sector to address inequality through education, employment, entrepreneurship, and criminal justice reform. As a partner on this important initiative, the Georgia Chamber will host local and industry dialogues to further the discussion and encourage local chambers across the state of Georgia to do the same.
Peter Carter, Executive Vice President of Delta Air Lines and the 2020 Georgia Chamber Board Chairman shared, “The business community must be part of the solution to racism and inequality. The Georgia Chamber encourages all Chambers, corporations and businesses to engage in this nationwide initiative to help drive change.”
“The Georgia Chamber stands with the black community as we work toward inclusion, change and a better Georgia of the future,” said Georgia. Chamber President Chris Clark. “We are proud to partner with the U.S. Chamber on this initiative and help develop a robust plan of action.”
This national initiative will build on the work already undertaken by unique partnerships with the Georgia Greater Black Chambers, the Atlanta Black Chambers and the Georgia Hispanic Chamber. The Georgia Chamber Foundation is also addressing first generation and disadvantaged student college success rates via the Smart Decisions Coalition and has invited the Georgia Chamber Recovery & Resiliency Task Force and Diversity & Inclusion Council to support intentional inclusion and economic mobility in their work.
Tharon Johnson, President of Paramount Consults and Chairman for the Georgia Chamber Diversity and Inclusion Council, added, “As we work toward unity and a better understanding, open and honest dialogue must happen. We look forward to growing with our nation as this initiative gets underway.”
