Statement
BRUNSWICK – Today, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce issued the following statement after the grand opening of Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Ellabell. At the ceremony, it was announced that Hyundai Motor Group's investment in Georgia would total $12.6 billion, and 500,000 electric and hybrid vehicles would be produced annually in Georgia.
The original plans for HMGMA called for a $5.54 billion investment in the facility, with an annual capacity of 300,000 units. This remains Georgia’s largest economic development project.
Hyundai Motor Group started their partnership in Georgia in 2005 with the construction of Kia's Georgia factory in West Point.
Chris Clark, President & CEO of the Georgia Chamber said after the event:
“20 years ago, then Governor Sonny Perdue welcomed Hyundai Motor Group’s first investment in the Peach State with the Kia plant in West Point. This week, Governor Brian Kemp announced both the opening of the Hyundai Metaplant and an expansion at the Bryan County facility. We believe in long-term relationship and this announcement shows that Georgia is the preferred destination for firms to meet the customer demand for automobiles for decades to come. Tens of thousands of hard-working Georgians are employed in the automotive and EV-related industry, generating billions of dollars in economic activity. With this new announcement, Georgia is now the unquestioned leader in advanced EV manufacturing.
“The Georgia Chamber thanks Hyundai Motor Group for increasing their record-breaking investment in Georgia, we applaud Governor Brian Kemp for his tireless dedication to pro-growth policies that made this possible, and we thank state and regional economic developers and other state leaders for their commitment to Georgia.”
