Have you heard? Our friends down at the Port of Savannah have received a $44 million federal grant given by the U.S. Department of Transportation. This large grant has been made possible through the Nationally Significant Freight and Highway Projects (NSFHP) program. The $44 million contribution is only part of the overall $128 million project known as the Port of Savannah International Multi-model Connector.

The Port of Savannah is one of the fastest growing and busiest ports in the nation, and the Fostering Advancements of National Efficiencies (FASTLANE) grant is a vital piece of the puzzle when it comes to maintaining thriving conditions. The grant funds will go towards building a new rail bridge, which will help shift a larger amount of containers from truck to rail. This alone will provide a significant reduction in highway congestion through the area. It will also allow larger trains from all over the United States to finally have access to the Port. This five-year project is indeed a great win for Georgia.
