Following the grand opening of the Westside Trail, Beltline officials announced their plans to purchase 13 acres of land to extend the Atlanta BeltLine North. While infrastructure is primarily supported by TSPLOST tax funding, the City of Atlanta committed to contributing $40 million in financial support.

In 2016 the Georgia Legislature passed Senate Bill 369, which established Metropolitan County Special Districts and created a “Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.” The transit sales tax is applied to all taxable items, and is predicted to generate $570 million in revenue.

To Atlanta BeltLine’s surprise, the City of Atlanta Administrators revealed they would be allocating an additional $20 million to their $40 million investment. The funds will be used for acquisition of real-estate to complete the transit corridor in its entirety.

While the Altana BeltLine currently owns half of the land needed, the unexpected donation will bring the project to completion. Once infrastructure is complete, the 22-mile corridor will provide transportation to 45 intown neighborhoods throughout Metro Atlanta.
